The most frequent and most popular of all the sessions we run, and the foundation of every CrossFit gym.
CrossFit classes are built for people who want varied, demanding, complete training. CrossFit brings together strength work, bodyweight movements, Olympic lifting, endurance work and functional movement, developing the whole body and building broad physical capacity. Every session is different,
combining technical coaching with a challenge that keeps both motivation and progress steady.
Classes last 60 minutes and consist of a warm-up, a skill or strength section, and the main workout (the WOD, or Workout of the Day). Every segment is led by a coach, which keeps the movement safe and controlled.
CrossFit works at every level, because every movement can be scaled and the loads are set to each person's ability.
CrossFit builds strength, endurance, speed, coordination, mobility and confidence. Training regularly improves your posture, raises your capacity for work and takes your fitness to another level. The community matters too: you train alongside people who keep you going.
This is training that actually moves you forward: every week, every class, every movement.
Our experience is that CrossFit either clicks from the first few sessions or does not suit a person at all.
The only way to find out which one you are is to come and try.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is the most varied form of strength and endurance training there
is. Every session works the whole body, drawing on movement from several
disciplines: gymnastics, athletics, weightlifting, bodyweight work and, of
course, aerobic training. That is what makes every session new. What matters
most is the willingness to move and to learn the movements properly.
The community is a large part of CrossFit too, both inside the gym and
between gyms, in Estonia and abroad. There are more than 15,000 CrossFit
gyms worldwide.
Who is CrossFit for?
CrossFit is for everyone, from small children to older adults. Our members
are aged between 2 and 60, and what we have in common is the wish to move.
You do not need to worry that you are not fit enough to start. Every session
can be scaled to what you can do. The point is to move, to enjoy it, and to
train according to the shape you are in today.
How is CrossFit different from an ordinary group class?
What defines CrossFit above all is the range of movements. In one session
you might pull a heavy deadlift, climb a rope and then add a hundred skips
on top.
Second, our coaches judge what each person can do that day and scale the
session to it. If someone cannot manage a rope climb, or does not dare to,
they get an alternative that works the same muscles and is within reach.
Third, our coaches spend real time on teaching correct form. We constantly
see people performing even simple, common movements with poor technique, squatting in a way that will sooner or later injure a knee. The pace and
structure of a CrossFit class mean that with a small group the coach can
talk to everyone, set the right load for the day and watch that the movements are done correctly.
The programme changes every day, so there is always a reason to come back.
Coaches work on the quality of your movement, and the result is that you
become more skilful, more confident and stronger.
Will the coaches help if the movements feel difficult at first?
CrossFit began from the wish to build a real working relationship between coach and athlete. That is why the groups are small: the coach has to reach everyone. At Tallinn CrossFit we put form first, and once that is in place you can start adding weight and taking on harder movements. For the more enthusiastic this can feel tedious, when they are not allowed to load the bar straight away, but if you cannot pull the bar off the floor properly there is no reason to start stacking plates on it. You learn to crawl and walk before you run.
What does CrossFit do for you mentally?
We work with intensity and keep changing the movements, the reps and the length of the session, which makes the training easier to take mentally. No routine builds up from day to day or week to week. The only routine is the effort itself, enjoying it and switching your head off. Some days are easier and some are harder, as in ordinary life, but you leave feeling good.
