Active Recovery

is Zone 2 training: low to moderate intensity work that builds endurance

and is an important part of recovery.

If you do CrossFit regularly, Zone 2 work is especially valuable. CrossFit sessions are intense, and Active Recovery supports the recovery between them.

How do you know you are in Zone 2?

• Your heart rate is around 60 to 70 per cent of maximum

• You can hold a conversation in full sentences, but singing is hard

• Your breathing is deeper but still under control

• The pace feels almost too easy at first

An Active Recovery session lasts 50 minutes. Depending on the programme we use machines (rower, SkiErg, treadmill and bike) alongside other equipment such as the box, medicine balls, dumbbells and kettlebells.

All the additional movements are light or bodyweight, at low intensity. The point is not to rush, and to keep your heart rate low throughout.

What does Zone 2 training give you?

• Improves aerobic capacity

• Plays an important part in heart health

• Helps raise performance

• The body burns fat
